About Kate

Background:

As a specialist in Sex Therapy, I am one of the few therapists in Ireland who has a background in the field of Relationship and Sexuality Education extending over a period of nearly two decades.

Qualifications:

I am a fully qualified psychotherapist accredited by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and a fully accredited Psychosexual Therapist and Supervisor in Psychosexual Therapy by the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy (COSRT) London.

Counselling & Psychotherapy Experience:

Since qualifying originally as a psychotherapist and subsequently as a relationship counsellor and psychosexual therapist, I have worked in MRCS (now Relationships Ireland) as a sex and relationship therapist & sex educator for more than a decade, and also in private practice. I am now practising at the Albany Clinic (Dublin city centre) as a sexual and relationship therapist / psychotherapist, and also in private practice at “Kate McCabe Counselling and Psychotherapy”, also in Dublin.

Approach:

I have extensive training and experience in working with people with sexual and relationship issues. Clients invariably indicate that they find it easy to openly discuss sensitive personal matters with me. I am caring and compassionate, and I work persistently on creating a supportive and healing environment. My therapeutic approach combines psychodynamic, systemic and humanistic perspectives with aspects of cognitive and behavioural techniques. It is informed by current thinking and research in psychotherapy, and is sensitive, caring and adaptable to individual needs. As a professional therapist and clinical supervisor, core values of confidentiality, dignity, respect and ethical boundaries are always maintained.

Confidentiality:

Confidentiality is discussed and agreed with ALL clients at the consultation and before counselling, psychotherapy and psychosexual therapy begins.

Codes of Ethics and Good Practice:

I practice within the guidelines of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy (COSRT) Code of Ethics and Good Practice.

Supervision and Professional Development:

I undergo regular clinical supervision and continuous professional development in counselling, psychotherapy and psychosexual therapy as required by the IACP and COSRT.
